From Plaine-Joux, go up to Ayères des Pierrières by the motorable track through the resort. After the alpine village, you enter a nature reserve and continue on the track to the refuge. The chalet, built in 1898, was a meeting place for chamois hunting and hikes to the surrounding peaks. Stage refuge on the Tour des Fiz, the Aiguilles Rouges and the Tour du Mont-Blanc. Return by the same route. It is also possible to climb via the Chorde or the Argentières (more technical routes, with cable passages, see the Lac de Pormenaz hike).
