The story takes place on the terrace of the "Bistrot des Peupliers".
Two regulars, each at their own table, enjoy their coffee. The atmosphere changes when Marcus, a suspicious-looking young man, takes his place at the center table. As the conversation progresses, the two other protagonists begin to suspect Marcus of being involved in the jewelry shop robbery of the previous day, attributed to a couple according to the press.
To sort out the real from the fake, they set up stratagems to unmask Marcus and his partner Isabella. Meanwhile, Marcus shares his stories, adding an intriguing dimension to the situation.
Marcus' digressions only heighten the suspicions of the two men, who, together with the waitress, do their utmost to get the young man to confess.
