Created in 1989 by Josiane Julliard, then head of the library, with the support of then Mayor Léopold Durbet.

When it was created, the aim was to introduce the population of Hermillon and the surrounding area to the wealth of what was being written and published on the subject of terroir. Very quickly, the public began to flock to the event, with nearly 6,000 visitors in a village of 600 souls. The Salon then opened up to new horizons, happily welcoming different French and French-speaking regions, making Hermillon, for a moment, a cosmopolitan village, open to a teeming literary world.

The impetus of recent years, and the new partnerships established, have enabled us to open up the Salon to a fruitful theme: From local to universal. "Terroir", because most popular novels are nourished by roots deeply rooted in a land and a memory, to give birth to writing that is strong because it is simple and direct. "Universal", because it is in a spirit of discovery and universality that the current team pursues its action.

Authors' meetings, book signings and conferences, exhibitions and events: for two days, literature takes up residence in the Maurienne and is open to all curiosities.

Today, the Salon is organized around a number of themes:

The Rosine Perrier Literary Prize is awarded to a work of French-language fiction rooted in the region, i.e. a novel whose writing is inspired by the region in which the action takes place.

The Prix de lecture à haute voix Charles Maly is awarded to a student from Savoie or Haute-Savoie who reads all or part of an author's text, or his or her own work, in the presence of the prize jury.

Short story competition prizes.

A theme is chosen for each edition, around which exhibitions and events are organized.

A delegation of local authors presents their works on the Savoie and Maurienne regions, guaranteeing the region's historical and literary memory, as well as its cultural dynamism.
