Exhibition: "Maurice Bonnet, the painter and the mountains"

Born in Belleville-sur-Saône in 1928, Maurice Bonnet entered the Lyon School of Fine Arts at the age of 17, to study architecture and interior decoration. There, he made friends with, among other peers, Jacques Truphémus and Jean Fusaro. During his career as an interior designer, he also developed a passion for drawing and painting, which became his only focus from 1975 onwards. His life and works were spent between the Mont du Villard alpine pastures of Megève and his Mediterranean villa in Cannes. He took great inspiration from the mountains, as demonstrated by his exhibitions, "Le vieil homme et la montagne" and "L'arc-en-ciel des saisons", held in Megève in 2009 and 2018 respectively.
In this new exhibition of oil-on-canvas, gouache watercolour, charcoal, acrylic and mixed-technique artworks, Maurice Bonnet uses a combination of chalk, pencil, paintbrush and pastel. His mountain landscapes and characters, still-life paintings and representations of Megève farms, livestock herds and horse-drawn sleighs in the village are moving and precious demonstrations of the simplicity and authenticity of mountain life.
