Tataki-zome is a Japanese natural dyeing technique that involves hammering fresh plants onto fabric to transfer their pigments and create delicate patterns.
The process involves arranging the plants on the material, covering them with another fabric or paper, then hammering them to extract the natural colors.
After hammering, the plants are removed, and the colorful patterns revealed.
The dyed fabric or paper is then dried and, in some cases, fixed to perpetuate the shades obtained. This artisanal method produces unique works of art, decorative textiles and original papers with natural motifs.
The Bios'faire association offers an afternoon initiation to this practice, so you can take your creation home with you!
