Ain is bordered to the north by the region of Franche-Comté and the Jura Mountains, to the east by Switzerland and the city of Geneva, to the south by the River Rhône and the city of Lyon and to the west by the River Saône and the vineyards of Beaujolais and Mâcon.
Ain is a département of contrasting landscapes and is divided into 4 distinct territories the Pays-de-Gex a mountainous area close to Geneva, Bugey a picturesque region in the foothills of the Jura Mountains, Dombes & Saône is an area of amazing lakes and rivers and Bresse with its lush green rolling countryside and Ain's capital Bourg-en-Bresse.
