Built by architect Eugène Dénarié from 1868 to 1873, this religious edifice replaced the city's old church, which was run down and too small. The architect chose the medieval period as inspiration, obvious through the church's architecture (tower and buttress). The neo-gothic "troubadour" style of Saint-Jean-Baptiste church breaks with the neoclassical style of most civil service buildings in Albertville (city hall, the subprefecture, etc.).
