La Colonne

Starting out from the Chef-lieu d'Albiez, make your way down through the meadows to the secret paths of La Colonne. You'll come to this old hamlet, which used to be a spring and autumn staging post before the cattle went up to the mountain pastures...

Not so long ago, remues were places where animals on their way to the summer pastures temporarily stayed, at altitudes of 800 to 1,400 m. They served as stopping-off points on the way to the mountain pastures. The old hamlet of La Colonne was such a place.
Two chalets are still in use in summer.

It was also located on the old road leading down to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, used by schoolchildren to study and by women to sell their wares at the market.

Signs

Follow the yellow Le Collet signs and stop before the Hameau de la Colonne.

    0/ Start at Place Opinel in the village center.
    1/ At the bread oven, take rue du Milieu.
    2/ At the first intersection, continue straight ahead on Rue du Milieu towards Collet d'en Bas.
    3/ Pass the La Maison Blanche vacation center and go down Chemin de la Colonne.
    4/ When you reach a farm and the sewage treatment plant, leave the road and take a track on the right.
    5/ Continue towards Collet d'en Bas on this track, passing two large hairpins.
    6/ Once you've reached the Hameau de la Colonne, take the same route back.
