What to see / What to know :
Renowned the world over, the slate quarry trail is a tribute to this "black gold", which made a major contribution to the Maurienne valley's growth in the 19th and 20th centuries, producing 25 million slates a year between the wars.

As you make your way along the balcony path above the torrent, your eye will be drawn to the slates littering the ground on the slope below.

You're entering the setting of a slate quarry site. Explanations along the way show just how hard slate quarry workers had to work. Little by little, you begin to imagine their lives in the 19th century.

As you enter the old quarry, the presence of the tools they used in those days makes the experience even more concrete, and you can almost see them pushing the wagonet or handling the hammer.

You'll never look at the roofs of houses in the same way again!
